SITT Spring to shine a spotlight on sustainability in wine

The Spring tastings for SITT, the Specialist Importers’ Trade Tasting event, will shine a spotlight on the topic of sustainability in wine.

SITT Spring will take place on February 24 in Manchester (etc Venues, 11 Portland Street); and on February 26 in London (Lindley Hall, Elverton Street). Each SITT day will run from 10.30am to 5.30pm.

Sustainability will be the key topic at the Spring SITT events and as part of this, each exhibitor will highlight wines that have a story of sustainability behind them. Up to three bottles will be specifically highlighted on each table, with these bottles also on the Free Pour tasting tables. Visitors are advised to look out for the pink bottle tags.

There will also be plenty of newcomers at SITT Spring, with exhibitors showing a total of 600 wines.

And there is a schedule of masterclasses for the Manchester and London tastings, including The Lucky Seven, by Piotr Petras, which will see the master sommelier on the hunt for lesser-known, indigenous grape varieties from around the world. Attendees are invited to join him to expand their knowledge and taste the selection of wines.

Also on the masterclass schedule is Layers in Barossa Grenache, presented by Alex Shulz. He will focus on winemaking techniques such as carbonic maceration, use of sulphides, stress levels and picking time in the vineyard. All things that are contributing to Turkey Flat’s current style of Grenache.

And completing the line up is Identifying Key Wine Faults by leading UK sommelier, Ronan Sayburn MS, who will guide attendees through a masterclass on how to identify key wine faults and the signs to look out for in order to spot them.

The Specialist Importers’ Trade Tasting is a bi-annual event that started in 2005, aimed at helping independents from the on and off-trade to do business with specialists.
