Wine Westside helm Takes cityscape

CITYSCAPE — Wine on the WestSide, one of Cookeville’s largest annual social events benefitting charities, is set for Saturday, Aug. 10. This will be the ninth year for the popular event, but this year local nonprofit CityScape takes over as the host organizer.

CityScape is so proud to be hosting this event, partly because our office is located in the heart of the WestSide,” said CityScape Executive Director Laura Wolf. “Our mission as a Tennessee Main Street community is to keep our downtown buildings occupied and to provide memorable events that take place in the heart of our downtown.”

The event will be held, as always, on the streets of Cookeville’s historic WestSide district. Portions of Cedar and Broad streets will be blocked off to allow patrons to leisurely stroll through and sample various wine and beer offerings (including beer from our local microbrewers and home brewers), listen to music from two stages, and enjoy local food options.

A significant portion of the proceeds from the event will be distributed to local nonprofits Genesis House and Rails for Trails. Each organization participates heavily in the planning and implementation of the event.

“I am so impressed with the volunteers from Genesis House and Rails for Trails,” added Wolf. “Many of these people have been participating in this event for years, and they already have made the planning process so much easier with their knowledge and their willingness to jump in and help.”

Interested parties may purchase tickets by going to the event’s new website, cookevillewineonthewestside.com which is full of details about the event. Regular admission costs $40/person, and non-drinkers can enter for $20/person.

The WestSide Business Association created and organized Wine on the WestSide for the event’s first eight years, but granted the rights to CityScape following last year’s event due to a reorganization of the group.

Lipman Brothers Distributors, based in Nashville, is the primary provider/sponsor of alcohol products for the event.

CityScape began locally in 1995 and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.  In addition to now hosting Wine on the WestSide, CityScape annually puts on two more large events, Taste of the Town and Fall FunFest. The organization is also the host of the Media Tent at the TSSAA high school football playoff games and volunteers at the Mayor’s 4th of July festivities.

The CityScape office is at 123 W. Broad Street. To learn more about CityScape, log on to cookevillecityscape.com.
