Celebrate Mother’s Day on the Westside Wine Trail Sunday at Sip with your Senses, a new wine and garden party event from noon to 5 p.m.

The event will see all 13 wineries offering complimentary tastings of a feature wine and giving out seeds or a bulb to help get your garden started. Truck 59 Cider House will also participate.

Sip with your Senses replaces Sip into Summer.

“Everyone’s thinking about gardening at this time of year now that the weather’s a little bit nicer, so we thought we’d do a bit of a garden party theme for it,” said Salina Curtis of the Westside Wine Trail.

“There are a lot of floral notes in wine,” she added.

People are encouraged to come out dressed in garden gear, whether that be a garden dress and a nice sun hat or a big loud floral shirt.

Each of the wineries is doing something a little bit different and Curtis said there may be some last-minute surprises at some of the wineries.

Sip into Summer used to offer blind wine tastings and guests can still learn about flavours and aromas in wines at Volcanic Hills’ mystery blind wine challenge. Guests can take an educated guess as to the wine in their glass to be entered to win a $100 gift certificate in the wine shop.

Some of the wineries such as Off the Grid and Ciao Bella have recently opened for the season, so Sunday’s event is a chance to see what’s new.

Off the Grid will feature its Pink Pinot Gris and give out pink bulbs.

Over at Beaumont Family Estate Winery, guests can sample the White Pinot Noir and collect bee-attracting mixed flower seeds. At 3 p.m. proprietor Louise Lubchynski will talk about how to choose flowers and plant in large planters as well as small-space organic gardening in grape bins.

“We’re so excited,” said Zoe Harris, special events co-ordinator at Mount Boucherie Winery, about the wine and garden party event. “It’s the perfect pair or Mother’s Day.”

The winery will offer complimentary tastings of their 2018 Rosé and the first 250 people will receive a basil seedling starter kit.

There is plenty of activity going on a Mount Boucherie.

Harris said the new wine experience centre will hopefully open at the end of August or the start of September.

The centre will include a tasting room on the bottom floor as well as a barrel room for Mount Boucherie Wine Club members. The top floor will be a restaurant and dining lounge.
