As the medical facilities in Katy and West Houston grow in size and acclaim, people from all over the country are coming to Katy to seek medical treatment. Their loved ones and caregivers come too, but at great cost. Hotels are expensive, and long-term stays are infeasible or even impossible for many caregivers to afford.

Cinco Charities founded and built The Ballard House to provide temporary housing free of charge for the individuals or caregivers seeking medical treatment in Katy. The Ballard House now has 40 suites that create a “home away from home” to house and comfort people during their treatment at no cost.

The Ballard House, a 501(c)(3) charity, recently expanded from 24 suites. Each suite is fully-furnished and features a private bath and kitchenette.

The Ballard House volunteer Mary Raines explained the mission of The Ballard House and its impact on the lives of those seeking treatment. “We’re the only organization in the United States that provides this kind of housing service at absolutely no cost to our visitors,” she said.

The Ballard House hosted one of its largest fundraisers, “Sip ‘n Stroll” April 27 at the Villagio Town Center. The event is hosted twice a year in the spring and fall.

Visitors to Sip ‘n Stroll were invited to sample wine and food from over 50 local restaurants and vendors. Each vendor donated a portion of their profits to The Ballard House. The event also featured a “wine pull” where guests could purchase a mystery bottle of wine for $10.
