Stock up on your holiday sweets with a bake sale with Aubergine Pastry Chef Yulanda Santos at Lilify in New Monterey on Saturday, Dec. 8, from noon-4pm. Santos will have treats for sample and sale, including her homemade “Nutella” and “pistachiotella,” milk chocolate-peanut butter cups, orange-elderberry kugelhupf cake and saltine cracker toffee.

Join Aubergine for the last “Redefining Flavor” dinner of the year on Wednesday, Dec. 5. This month’s menu takes diners to Morocco by way of a four-course tasting menu (with paired wines) from Executive Chef Justin Cogley and Pastry Chef Yulanda Santos. Dinner includes smoked couscous, lobster and rack of lamb, with spiced chocolate for dessert ($115). And on Dec. 6, Cogley hosts a cooking class sharing his secrets for a successful holiday dinner party. Learn how to break down and roast the perfect duck (11:30am-1:30pm, $125). Call 624-8578 to grab a seat at either.

Vito’s restaurant in Pacific Grove has closed. Vito Favalora’s namesake Italian restaurant opened in 1986 and abruptly shuttered last month by way of an eviction notice.

Monterey’s historic Sardine Factory welcomes a new senior culinary team: Executive Chef Karl Staub and Sous Chef Pete Martinez. Staub is a veteran of the restaurant industry who has traveled from coast to coast working for top restaurants, and most recently was executive chef at Sanderlings at the Seascape Beach Resort in Aptos. Martinez is another recruit from Santa Cruz, previously serving as sous chef at Solaire inside the boutique Hotel Paradox.

Some new additions are coming to the hub of wine tasting rooms in Carmel Valley Village. BOLD Wines  from Todd Seabold and Master Sommelier-turned-winemaker Christopher Miller will take over the former Figge tasting room at 3 Pilot Road. The pair previously partnered with the late winemaker Peter Figge and have now purchased Figge’s winery operation, including the Carmel Valley tasting room. They’ll honor Figge’s legacy with Little Figge, a label from Figge’s wife Anne, also available in the tasting room. And down the street, Village Wine and Tap Room will join the row of tasting rooms at 19 E. Carmel Valley Road.

Parker-Lusseau Pastries is now taking orders for holiday sweets. This year, the bakery will offer five variations of bûche de Noël cake: chocolate-spice with ginger spice cake, chocolate-raspberry with pistachio cake, chocolate-espresso (gluten-free), triple chocolate (gluten-free) and chocolate-passion fruit-coconut (gluten-free). Cakes are available for $6.75 per serving and available in four, six, eight, 10, 12 and 16 servings. Other Christmas specialties coming to the bakery include stollen ($17.50), chocolate truffles ($2.75 each and available in discounted gift boxes), candied orange rind (plain $7, chocolate-dipped $8.50) and brioche with candied citrus ($3.75 each and available in discounted loaves). Holiday orders must be placed by Wednesday, Dec. 19.
