Hollywood, MD - The Hard Bargain Players conclude the 2017 season with The Weir, by Conor McPherson, by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York. Directed by Brooke L. Howells with Assistant Director Matt Jameson, the play is set in a bar in rural Ireland as local men swap spooky stories in an attempt to impress a young woman from Dublin who recently moved into a haunted house nearby. The cast includes John Kirby as Jack; Anthony Dieguez as Jim; Patrick Pruitt as Brendan; Michael Margelos as Finbar; and Kaitelyn Bauer Dieguez as Valerie. Performances run Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm from October 6 through 21. Tickets are $10. Each $8. For students, seniors and members of the Alice Ferguson Foundation). The 15th Anniversary 2017 Sotterley Winefest will be held Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 7 and 8 from noon to 5 p.m. each day (rain or shine). Come out for tastings from 17 wineries, 2 craft beer vendors, 8 food vendors, and to experience 4 bands, 20 artisans, and free tours of the 1703 Plantation House and Colonial Revival Gardens tours. Tickets will be sold at the door: tasting tickets are $25. each; designated driver tickets are priced at $20; Youth tickets for ages 6 – 20 are $5.; children 5 and under are admitted free of charge while Sotterley members’ tickets are priced at $15. Lincoln/Reagan Dinner
The 2017 St. Mary’s County Republican Central Committee Lincoln/Reagan Dinner will be held Thursday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge on Fire Department Lane in California. Guest Speaker will be David Bossie, Maryland Republican National committeeman, president of Citizens United, and frequent guest on Fox News. The menu will be a Southern Maryland buffet of stuffed ham, fried chicken and sides. Tickets are $60 each and checks may be sent to: the St. Mary’s County Republican Central Committee (SMCRCC) at P.O.Box 126 in Hollywood, MD 20636. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. This Oyster Festival, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lexington Park, is the home of the US National Oyster Shucking Competition and the National Oyster Cook-Off. Admission is $10; kids under age 12 are admitted free of charge.
