Two new wineries are coming to town in Lake Country, and the mystery behind them will soon be revealed.

O’Rourke Family Vineyard is currently bottling their very first commercial release on Monday, which will be available to the public on May long weekend at their new location on Goldie Road.

The new vineyard is located between Barkley Road and Carrs Landing Road and spans a vast amount of land that has caused many residents to wonder what is being built.

JDS Energy & Mining INC. was commissioned by Sureway Construction Group LTD to excavate the underground facilities for wine storage tunnels and a wine tasting room as part of the development.

The tunnels amount to 270 linear metres, including three portals and took over six months to create.

“The focus of the work was on quality, aesthetics and long-term stability of the excavation as opposed to advance rate,” said a release.

The project value of just the tunnels was $2.5 million.

Castanet spoke to the winemaker, who said the two wineries will each have their own identity. Later this week, Castanet will take an inside look at the work being done.
