There is some light at the end of the tunnel for Australian wine exports in Canada, reflecting improved perceptions of Australian wine among trade and consumers.

Total Australian wine exports to Canada increased by 1 per cent in value to $191 million and declined by 3 per cent in volume to 63 million litres; exports of A$10 and more per litre free-on-board (FOB) grew 9 per cent, with the strongest growth recorded between $10 and $19.99. The average value of bottled exports to Canada grew by 5 per cent to $5.66 per litre FOB, or its highest level since January 2009.

• Café Medina, renowned for its strict no-reservations policy, is offering locals and visitors the chance to skip the line and book tables for two to six people by donation all November with 100 per cent of proceeds to benefit the Movember Foundation.

Until Nov. 30, Café Medina will offer up three time slots each day — 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. — to patrons who pledge a $25 per-table donation to the global charity that raises awareness of men’s health issues.

Blue Mountain Brut N/V, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia

$23.90 | 90/100

UPC: 626452701113

A long time B.C. benchmark for bubbles, there are many new producers snapping at Blue Mountain’s heels and its Brut market in particular. Expect a vibrant sparkler with leesy/brioche notes mixed with green apple and nutty citrus aromas that precede its dry, earthy, green apple, lemon/honey flavours. A classy, dry, cool-style sparkler that’s fresh and mineral driven. The latest mix is 56/39/5 Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris re-fermented in the bottle. Pair with oysters, spot prawns or mussels.

La Jara Prosecco Extra Dry Organic N/V, Treviso, Verona, Veneto, Italy

$19.99 |  88/100

UPC:  8033976832025

Crisp, bright and zesty, with white peach, green apple and lacings of floral, this is the classic Extra Dry category of Prosecco, but much more on the Brut (drier) end. Lime leaf brings a welcome bitter edge to counter the fruit. A lovely example, and — bonus — organic, Prosecco, at an appealing 11.5 per cent.

Anna Spinato Prosecco Organic N/V, Veneto, Italy

$14.99 | 86/100

UPC: 8011204003874

Bright floral, pear, honey aromas with a bit of baked citrus rind. Fresh, crisp, juicy entry with some sweetness. Baked pear, honey, nutty, floral, apple skin and candied grapefruit rind flavours. Good intensity with some lees length and not too sweet. Good solid value for basic Prosecco.

Codorníu Cuvée 1872 Rosé Barcelona  N/V, Catalunya, Spain

$19.49 | 88/100

UPC: 8410013016974

This rosé recalls traditional winemaking techniques where fresh must was added to must already undergoing fermentation, lowering the temperature and affecting the texture. These musts spend time in oak, further amping-up the body before spending nine months on the lees. Full notes of cherry, raspberry, red currant jam and brioche on a creamy, expansive palate. Crisp, currant-laced acidity and barely off-dry, with ample fruit and body. This is one is big enough for the dinner table.

Jansz Premium Cuvée Chardonnay — Pinot Noir N/V, Tasmania, Australia

$27.99 I 89/100
